Ian believes that good ideas can come from anyone at any time. This is why, as a landscape architect, he subscribes to an inclusive, collaborative, and patient design process. He believes in the power of the analog in a digital world—that sketches, models, and tactile materials can unlock innovative approaches to placemaking. Ian’s projects have won numerous awards at both the built and planning levels, domestic and abroad.

Ian’s work considers themes of social justice and human-centered design. As a design leader and project manager, he makes sure these issues are brought to the foreground and designed for in the landscape. His critical regionalist design philosophy means he approaches each design with a respect for what makes a place specific, seeking to create landscapes that connect people to place.

Ian has worked in the offices of OLIN, STIMSON, and Sasaki, where he originally started in 2009. In addition, he has served as a design instructor at Northeastern University and as a lecturer and design critic at Northeastern, Boston Architectural College, Roger Williams University, Kansas State University, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and Texas A&M University. Ian received a non-baccalaureate master of landscape architecture degree from Kansas State University in 2009. He loves day-tripping around New England with his wife and two children. He delights in Filipino cooking, Wendell Berry poetry, and music from The Midnight.
