Welcome to the Belvidere South Middle School Choir Homepage!  Choir will meet daily for the entire year.  Students in seventh and eighth grade will place an emphasis on improving vocal tone, developing musical skills, and increasing musical knowledge.  This year, we will sing a variety of musical styles and selections.  Chorus students will also study basic music theory.  Music theory includes: rhythm reading, solfege and note reading, musical signs, and musical symbols.  Students will have the opportunity to participate in concerts, solo and ensemble, festivals and other activities during the school year.  I am very excited about the 2009-2010 school year!

In choir, students are graded on their participation/behavior, sightsinging quizzes, written quizzes, and concert attendance.  Grades (A-F) will be used for grading chorus.  Please call me or send a note if your student is not able to attend a concert.  Students must actively participate both in class and at concerts.  Students must follow guidelines for concert behavior while performing and while listening.  Being a good audience includes: staying in your seat, listening to others perform without being disruptive or talking, and clapping appropriately.  During their part of the concert, students must actively participate, have good singing posture, not have gum, pay attention to the director, and follow guidelines which we will practice to present the best concert possible.

Chorus classroom guidelines are:  follow written and verbal directions, come prepared to class each day, be in your seat when class begins, treat everyone and the classroom with respect, and remain quiet when others are talking or singing.

Please understand that this is a yearlong commitment to a choral performing group.  Students will remain in this class for the school year.  Students must understand that everyone’s effort and participation are needed for the entire year.

Here’s to a great year at Belvidere South!
